====== Objectives of the PPWP ====== Towards the end of developing and maintaining a living, breathing persistent world that fosters quality RP and that is managed by the community of players... ===== Objectives of the death system ===== The ideal death system will have the potential revival but also the potential for perma-death. Perma-death should be possible but not likely to occur through normal game play. It should be clear when a player's character is in a situation that could lead to perma-death and the path to that situation should be dependent on the character's decisions. Furthermore, the primary risk factors involved in perma-death should not include metagame factors outside the player's control. The penalties for death followed by revival should greatly stifle the character's progress to his or her player's objectives for that character but not permanently. The character should also be incapacitated for a time after the character's revival from death to prevent the character from immediately returning to the task he or she set out on before death. ===== Objectives on realism in character concepts and setting ===== The persistent world will be set in the Forgotten Realms setting of Faerun on the southern shores of the Dragonmere. Ideally, the area will be setup to realistically reflect what is understood as being the official information on that part of the region. Character concepts will also reflect what is understood as being the kinds of characters you would find in this region of Faerun. ===== Objectives on encouraging a quality RP environment ===== Ideally, there will be strict yet fair enforcement of quality RP behaviors. For example, characters will remain in character at all times while in in characer (IC) areas, character concepts will not be out of place with the setting, and characters are expected to behave in a manner consistent with their background and history in the PW. Ideally, the game mechanics of the PW will encourage character interaction. Towards this end, there should not be any items accessible that allow a character to escape class restrictions for the class or classes of that character. Other game mechanics should not allow a character to escape his or her class restrictions either. ===== Objectives on the placement of power ===== Ideally, points of power such as the control of the forums or the host machine will be placed in the hands of the community. Also, should an individual granted this power try to use his or her power over a point of power for his or her own ends, the server shall be able to punish that individual and recover from that influence by finding a substitute, putting overwhelming pressure on the individual, and/or any other means necessary without any great problems. The server should not put itself in a situation where an individual or group of individuals has undo power except what is granted in the articles of the PPWP.
